A strong drive toward miniaturization is found in areas ranging from consumer electronics
to aerospace. This drive is fueled by the reduction in manufacturing cost and the increase in utility often associated
with making things smaller. We should expect that anything that can be small ultimately will be made small.

Miniaturization
of freight trains doesn't make sense, but there are many good reasons to miniaturize devices that gather or store information,
that are implanted within the body, that are carried in our pockets, or that are launched into space. We think that
particularly interesting opportunities for highly-miniaturized mesoscale systems exist in wireless sensing networks, robotics, and medical devices. Please click on the links to explore our perspective
in these areas.
